About me
My name is Camilla Basile, and I am a doctor specializing in Classics. I recently earned my PhD from the University of Virginia (Charlottesville) with a thesis on Apollonius of Rhodes and what I call ‘religious multiculturalism’ in the Argonautica. In my thesis, I explored how Apollonius portrays the intersection of religious ritual and theology within the culturally diverse world of the Argonautica. My research also relates to the themes of this website, especially in geography, cartography, and ethnography. My upcoming projects include further research on Apollonius’ treatment of non-Greek sources and an analysis of Hellenistic oracles as multicultural institutions in Ptolemaic Alexandria.
Since April 2026, I have been working as a lecturer in Greek philology (akad. Rätin auf Zeit) at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg.
